LucasArts licenses Unreal Engine 3 from Epic Games‎

Hey TFU II Fans, here is some awesome news that needs to be shared! LucasArts, the development studio behind Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series and Monkey Island has purchased a long-term license of the Unreal Engine 3.The license is studio-wide, and would be utilized across all platforms of gaming, including PC, console and mobile devices. Acquiring the Unreal Engine 3 is significant in that it would allow LucasArts to place more resources on game development and creativity. Previous projects were development only after the difficult task of creating an internal engine.
Speaking on the Unreal Engine, LucasArts’ director of technology Zak Phelps stated that

“(Unreal Engine is) a forward-looking solution that shortens the path between inspiration and execution on a wide variety of gaming platforms.”

By putting more focus on the game development process, hopefully we can see some of their most popular franchises taken to the next level. Could you imagine the next Force Unleashed on Unreal Engine 3? (Epic's recent tech demo.)

Previously, LucasArts licensed Unreal Engine 2 for 2005's Star Wars: Republic Commando.

Coincidentally Tim Longo has accept the mantle of creative director at LucasArts on an unannounced project. During his previous stint with the LucasArts he served as first lead designer and then director on Star Wars: Republic Commando. Longo revealed the move in a twitter post earlier this month.

Could this news of Unreal Engine 3 & Tim Longo's return to LucasArts mean a Republic Commando sequel, perhaps set during the original trilogy? Maybe even Battlefront 3? We can only hope for the best!

5 Ways To Get More Bang For Your Buck!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II has been released for nearly three months and it has sold over 2 million units. The game has received some bad rep due to the shortness of the story and game play. While the game itself is not bad, the overall lack of luster has disappointed fans across the globe. However, you can still enjoy this wonderful game. Here are five ways to get more bang out of the game for your buck.

#5. Play the game using different costumes. If you play your cards right, you can have over 20 awesome costumes to choose from. The game has a standard set of costumes you use during the campaign with several more unlocked as you find holocrons and complete challenges. If you have a saved game located on your Xbox from the first Force Unleashed game, you will have an additional five costumes at your disposal. Just a few weeks ago Lucas Arts released a costume pack for only $1 for the PS3 and Xbox360. Who hasn't dreamed of fighting Darth Vader with Darth Malik? It is highly recommended that you purchase the costume DLC.

#4. Complete the challenge maps. Most people who complete the campaign never think of playing the challenge rooms. While they are harder than the actual game, they are extremely well done and nearly impossible for the casual gamer. If you think you got game, try getting platinum medals for every single room. You will be considered a master if you can get a gold medal on half of them. A couple of the challenges are broken, but the glitches are easy to overcome. Not to mention by completing challenges you gain exp, unlock costumes, lightsaber crystals and even bonus cutscenes that shed some light of the truth of the evil starkiller clone.

#3. Battle of Endor. If you felt the game was too short, then the Battle of Endor DLC is perfect for you. Set during the events of Episode 6, the DLC continues the story of the first game DLC. However, its based from the 2nd game. While Obi-wan, Boba & Luke are dead, Vader is alive and well and the darkside clone is ready to finish off the rest of the rebels. The DLC will last between one & two hours and if three bonus costumes if you find the holocrons. If you are unsure about purchasing the DLC read the review here.

#2. Complete the game 100%. The best way to enjoy a game is to do everything you can possible do. From killing every last stormtrooper to finding all the holocrons, completing the game will take lots of time and skill. Can you unlock every bonus cut scene? Have you found all the lightsaber crystals? How about finding all the easter eggs? If you are an achievement hunter, or a trophy collector this is a great game for you. Most of the achievements and trophies are easy, but the big ones are worth the challenge. If you want to show off your mad skills, try getting in the top 1000 in each of the challenge room leaderboards. If you think you are better than that, try top 500 or even the top 100.

Finally the best way to enjoy The Force Unleashed II is to:

#1. Play the Game More Than Once. If you truly want to enjoy TFU II, don't buy the game just to sit in front of your TV playing on easy mode, spamming your way through each level, only to complete the game in one sitting. If you complain about how the game was too short and a rip off, that is completely your fault! Yes the game should be longer, with more levels and advanced gameplay, but sitting around playing for 5 hours trying to play as fast as you can is pointless. Slow down, take your time, and enjoy the game for what it is. Play the game again on a harder difficulty without using the same move over and over again. Try to change things up, try the harder combo's and grappels. Do not use the same force power twice in a row. There are four difficulty levels and the hardest one is unlocked after you complete the game. Play the game four times on each difficulty and sit back and relax. While TFU II is a broken game and a shadow of its former self, it still has some use for you to utilize. When you try to enjoy the game instead of bashing it for all its imperfections and glitches, you may learn that it is indeed a good game. Short but sweet.

TFU II Battle of Endor DLC Review Spoilers

The first batch of DLC for the Force Unleashed II was made available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 yesterday for the low price of $1! The story continues the line of previous darkside DLC from the first game. However, this time around you are using the darkside clone that killed Starkiller. The events of the first games DLC still happened Obiwan has been destroyed & Luke has fallen on Hoth. Unlike the first games DLC, Vader is still alive and the new Clone Starkiller is fit as a fiddle. No need for robotic parts.

Story 9.5/10 *Spoilers*

Lord Vader dispatches you once again to destroy the rebels. Arriving on the moon of Endor Starkiller makes his way to the shield generator punting, shocking, and obliterating as many Ewoks as he pleases.

There is a nice reward for punting Ewoks, so have fun! After you reach the bunker, two very iconic characters are waiting for you. Genral Han Solo & his Wookie companion Chewie. The smuggeling duo is no match for the power of the dark side. Brutally dispatching of the lovable heroes. Making his way inside the bunker, the clone destroys all forms of live, imperials and rebels alike. As he reaches the core, he comes across a lone figure. The last of the Skywalkers & Jedi Knight, Princess Leia. Branding a yellow lightsaber and the power of the Force, the princess puts up a honorable fight, but the day is won by the Empire...or so it seems. With an exciting cliffhanger ending, we all can anticipate more DLC to come soon.

Gameplay 8.5/10

The overall gameplay is predominately the same as the game, with some minor patches. The DLC is basically glitch free, and a couple of minor moments of lag wont ruin the experience. The environment is more destructable. You can cut down some tree's, and destroy computer panels and structures. Sadly the use of Havok and DMM is not nearly as strong as the first game. There are a few holocrons that are hidden around the level. If you dont pay attention you will miss all of them, they are hidden well. Each holocron unlocks a bonus costume of the rebel troopers you fight. The level design is basic, but the folks over at Lucas Arts Singapore make an attempt to make it look like the movie; even tho they could have done a better job. The light saber duel with Leia is amazing. The speed and agility they two combatants have is epic. The way they block and counter strikes and attacks make the saber fights in original trilogy look like children playing with sticks. The quick time events are satisfying and properly choreographed. Like the full game, the DLC only gets repetive if you let it. Mix up you moves and combonations. Don't use the same force power twice in a row and you wont get tired of the same old same old.

Overall 9/10

Lasting between 30 mins on Easy mode and up to 2 hours on Unleashed, the Battle for Endor is a nice addition to a nice game, if you still kept the game that is. With new achievements and trophies those who seek to increase their gamerscore or collection of trophies will be happy. If you worried about the cost, dont be it will only cost you 80 microsoft points for Xbox 360 and $0.99 for Playstation 3. The DLC for the first game cost 10 times that amount! Also a new character costume pack is also ready to be downloaded for the same price. The Battle for Endor is very enjoyable and exciting. You will want to play it over and over again. There is nothing better than chopping down ewoks with Admerial Ackbar, or playing the original game as Darth Malik! Some may say this cheap costing DLC is an apology for the full game that many people disliked due a short and shoddy experience. Even if it is, its a step in the right direction for Lucas Arts. We cannot wait for the next batch of DLC or maybe even The Force Unleashed III

Endor DLC Announced

Shortly after the games released, pc gamers hacked their way into discovering some hidden content. Lucas Arts has told IGN all about it.

Starkiller returns in the first piece of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 DLC, and IGN has the exclusive announcement and first screenshots. To get the details on this latest addition, we sent over a few questions to LucasArts. They were answered by Gio Corsi, an Executive Producer at LucasArts Singapore.

IGN:The DLC takes place on Endor. Does this mean it is during Return of the Jedi? Will we be killing Ewoks?

Gio Corsi: It does indeed take place on the forest moon of Endor during the time of Return of the Jedi. However, we like to call this an "infinite storyline", much like the Hoth Bonus Mission from the first Force Unleashed game that gave us an alternate take on that iconic battle from the Empire Strikes Back. As Gamers and fans of the Star Wars universe, the infinite storyline allows us a "what if" moment that scratches an itch by rolling the dice with established Star Wars characters or scenarios. It's a pretty sweet opportunity. And yes, there will be battles with Ewoks!

IGN: Is this the first of many add-ons players can expect for TFU2? Where else might we be going as the evil Starkiller?

Gio Corsi: Who knows where the infinite storyline can take Starkiller, there are so many possibilities but right now we are focusing on the Endor Bonus Mission.

IGN: Will the DLC add new achievements and trophies?

Even in death they're so damn cute.Gio Corsi: Absolutely, there are a number of new achievements and trophies. One of the team's favorite is the "Sith Kicker Achievement" but I'll let you figure that one out for yourselves.

IGN: About how long can people expect the DLC to take them to play through? Also, do we get to use our leveled up character from the campaign?

Gio Corsi: The Endor Bonus Mission is comparable in length to the add-ons from the first game. As for the character itself, we leveled Starkiller differently for the DLC since this adventure falls into the "infinite universe." He does have the same abilities as he did in TFU2 which allows Starkiller to start kicking ass right from the get go.

IGN: Why does the DLC always assume players picked the Dark Side ending? Does this mean the light side ending to TFU2 is considered canon?

LucasArts: To be honest, we just thought it was a really cool avenue to explore. Take this bad ass Jedi, make him a true Sith and throw him into an established adventure and watch the sparks fly. It's going to be epic!

Along with the information on Starkiller's Endor adventure, which will be released later this year, we already received word about an upcoming character skin pack that will cost one dollar.

The Force Unleashed 2 Review Minor Spoilers

The Force Unleashed 2 has been released to the world and it seems to have stirred up a lot of controversy. While there are mixed opinions about the game, one question remains...Is Starkiller a Clone or Not? It seems its up to you to decide.
*Minor Spoiler* Opening Crawl

"The galaxy is on the brink
of civil war. Inspired by the
sacrifice of DARTH VADER's
secret apprentice, a ragtag
rebel alliance plots to overthrow
the evil GALACTIC EMPIRE.

Imperial forces in relentless
pursuit of the Rebels have
captured the Jedi Knight
RAHM KOTA. Its general lost,
the Alliance fleet has vanished.

While the Empire searches for
the Rebels, Darth Vader
has put a dark plan in motion
that will bring an end to
his apprentice's legacy...."

Story 7/10
The Force Unleashed 2 begins with Vader arriving on the planet Kamino. He has been very busy, trying to perfect a clone of Galen Marek (aka Starkiller who died at the conclusion of the first game). In this game, you play as a "Imperfect Clone" who escapes from Vader on a wild goose chase to find Juno Eclispe. There are four chapters of the game broken down into nine levels. They stream together in a vibrant fashion and provides a very short and rushed story. The first game spanned over a few months, in the sequel everything could have transpired in 2 weeks. Lacking proper introduction and having no fleshed out details, to the many fans the story will be a disappointment. The ending however is different, containing a well thought out exciting cliff hanger which will leave true fans screaming for a third game. (While the fanboys will disagree, the ending is indeed amazing) Having read the script the plot for this game looks and sounds great on paper. However, it isn't as compelling and immersible as the first game, which won the Writers Guild Award. The game is presented like a movie. The excellent voice acting and extraordinary cinematic make it worth while. If you treat it as a continuation of the first game, instead of a stand alone title, you may enjoy it more.

Gameplay 8/10

Lucas Arts has fixed most major issues in this sequel. The camera is less problematic, there are hardly any loading times, lightsabers dismember and decapitate, and contains less glitches and bugs. With an abundance of lightsaber combos, impressive visuals and epic boss battles, The Force Unleashed II delivers in this department. If you don't blow through the game on easy mode, it will last you between 6-10 hours. However the game is still short compared to others. The challenge maps (and possibly DLC in the future) add some sense of replay value. If you take the time to collect all the holocrons, read the data-bank entries, win every platinum medals in the challenge mode, and score every Achievement or win the Trophies you will have made the game worth your money. Otherwise you will feel ripped off due to the short story.
While there are only three somewhat repetitive boss battles, the intense graphics and epic finishes make them all the better. Except the Titan/Terror Walker which was a disappointment. In the E3 Trailer Starkiller stops the driod's laser with his bare hands, zaps it with Sith Lightning, cuts off its legs, stabs it several times before splittting the giant droid in two. In the actual game, the Droid has shields, which require you to lift four pylons to make a distrupter to bring down the shields in order to hurt the Titan. Afterwards you have to replace the batteries to turn the disrupter back on, all while fighting several annoying enemies.

Verdict. 7.5/10 Rent if you are undecisive, buy if you are a loyal fan.

While this may be a generous score, the game does deliver! The only main problem is the short rushed story and irrelevent cameos. After playing the game you will have the feeling that Lucas Arts only finished half of what they set out to accomplish. There were several gameplay elements that were either removed or unused that could have made a difference. Force Fury and Mind Trick took a back seat while the powers from the original game stole the glory. Yoda and Boba should have remained secret cameos. Juno and Starkiller are hardly together, which was the goal of the game. General Kota's voice gets annoying and overdramatic later in the game and Proxy needs a make over. Overall Star Wars The Force Unleashed II improved upon the first game but didnt live up to all the expectations. Every Star Wars fan needs to play the game at least once. While the plot is skimpy, it does indeed gives a new perspective to Episodes IV-VI. Lucas Arts managed to make Vader the ultimate villian like he was in Empire Strikes Back, his character was spot on! In fact, Haden Blackman( who conveniently left to start his own buisness a few months ago) was correct when he compared TFU II to ESB. It makes you feel a little uneasy and not sure what just happened, but in a good way. Vader had more control and did how he pleased, Boba Fett does his bounty hunting, the protaginist goes to Dagobah to meet with Yoda, and they both have a cliff hanger ending with an important figure being captured.....*Spoiler* The Force Unleashed 2 is a solid game, it's not the greatest, but still very enjoyable .

Let's just hope Lucas Arts continues to listen to the fans (a little more this time) and make The Force Unleashed III....pray they don't treat the third game like Return of the Jedi and have Ewoks ruining everything. Or that could just be DLC...(Rumor)

After working on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, what's the most exciting thing about coming back to work on the sequel?

The story is really cool to me. Having the chance to revisit those characters, take them in a new direction and deal with the mystery behind cloning in the Star Wars universe. Cloning has always been a bit of a mysterious subject; can you clone a Jedi, for example? Has it ever been done? Maybe, but not successfully - and what does that mean for Starkiller and his psyche?

It's a much more personal story than the first game, which was about redemption after Starkiller started off as a rebel hunter. In the second game the hunter becomes the hunted and you're a fugitive, running from Darth Vader.

Was it a nice surprise to see such a positive reaction to the first game?

It was - when you work on games you always do your best job, whether it's a huge hit or not... I've worked on games which some people have never even heard of! Everything about The Force Unleashed was a very challenging experience. I remember feeling that if we pulled it off then we could do anything, and would love another shot at it - which we got in the sequel. And watching people's reactions is just fantastic.

Did you feel any pressure in being part of the massive Star Wars franchise?

Absolutely. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and gamer, so putting those two together puts a lot of pressure on because I know what I want to hear and experience as a gamer. The Star Wars games I played when I was a kid inspired me to want to join LucasArts, and once I was there I wanted to do a great job.

There's a lot of pressure when you're working on one of the most famous franchises in the world but you have to love it and we certainly do.

What sort of challenges did you encounter working on the game?

Obviously we wanted to up the ante in a lot of ways in The Force Unleashed II. The first thing we wanted to do was go back and address a lot of the feedback from the first game. We put in a new rendering and graphics system, improved the targeting and camera viewpoint for the player, improved the Artificial Intelligence and, all across the board, we went for a better, more focused experience.

It's really coming together - it looks absolutely gorgeous on PlayStation 3 and we have more experience with the system now to really utilise its power. And it's the same team which created the first game, so we can just go in and fix all these things because we have the experience, and that's the right way to go with a franchise.

What has been your favourite aspect of working on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II?

Besides the story, I'd say getting the chance to revisit the game mechanics, tighten them up and realise the further potential and the concept behind it, which is unleashing the Force. We're reimagining Star Wars in the way we wanted but it's still true to the licence. We've never seen Force powers like we have in The Force Unleashed II.

We have a new power called Jedi Mind Trick, which is ideal when you're up against a lot more enemies seeing as we can get a lot more of them on-screen at the same time now. So when you cast Mind Trick on them, sometimes they'll throw themselves into harm's way or they'll attack each other... it's quite funny.

One of my favourite experiences was doing the audio for one of the trailers. It was so true to the moves you can do in the game, and just watching it on-screen and people's reaction to it during E3 2010 was so satisfying. I loved that, because if I wasn't working on it I would be rabidly consuming it myself!

Is there anything else you want to add about your experience on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II?

I really hope people enjoy it and enjoy where the story goes. We're taking it in an exciting direction and I love these characters. I'd encourage people to experiment with their Force powers as much as they can. There's so much cool stuff you can do in the game, with over 50 different lightsaber combos alone, all sorts of grapple techniques that no one's seen before, and a much tighter and focused experience

The Force Unleashed 2 Demo has been released for the Xbox 360). Overall it is a great demo. It has a few little problems here and there, but shows off all the hard work Lucas Arts has but into the game perfectly. The demo starts with Lord Vader and Starkiller talking about visions. The cutscene animations are flawless. Subsequently you are given 2 crimson lightsabers and ordered to take down a few proxy driods. This is the basic tutorial of the game. The last droid to take down mimics the persona of Juno Eclispe, Starkillers love interest from the first game. Unable to strike her down, Vader proclaims Starkiller a failed clone. A brief flashback warns Starkiller that Vader will attempt to kill him since he has no further use to the Dark Lord. Blasting Vader with a jolt of sith lightning, Starkiller excapes the training tower on Kamino and free falls his way to freedom.

The Good

         *Wonderful Visuals. Lucas Arts maximized the way the game looks and feels 10 fold compared to the first game. The cutscenes are borderline real, they look better than some animations in movies.
         * Crazy Combat. The lightsaber combos are amazing, although it is a hyped up version of the combat of the first game with an additional lightsaber, if you attempt diffrent moves and combos it becomes an entirely new concept of combat. The dismemberment adds a wonderful touch. (Note the sabers are upgraded fully in the demo, dismemberment might not happen at the start of the full version game untill you upgrade them)
         * Improvements. Lucas Arts has improved thier product greatly compared to the first game. They fixed the camera, they even let you adjust it in the options menu, which is another great improvement. You no longer have to wait 30 seconds to go to the gameplay menu's or to upgrade your saber. The game is less glitchy than the first one. Lucas Arts has mastered the use of DMM, Havok, & Euphoria creating a wonderful experience at the end of the Free Fall. The Ai in the demo is much better compared to the first game. Troopers realistically take cover and hide from the duel sabered sith. If you dont pay attention, you might get flanked by a couple of troopers and get killed in an embarrassing way.

The Bad

* Slower gameplay. The games pacing is a little slower than before. The Dash isn't as fast, nor does it move the character as far . What would be better is just to bring back Force Speed and replace the Dash move. Or during Force Fury the Dash move rushes you foward 10 or 15 meters blowing through all those in your way. The lock-on feature also slowed you down greatly. In the first game, using Dash while locked on actually dodge an attack, instead of moving you two feet left or right and still getting hit.

* Force Grip. Some may say that Force Grip was too difficult to use in the original Force Unleashed, for that reason Lucas Arts redisigned it. It is much easier to use in the sequel, but if you mastered it from the first game, you may feel that it isn't as good. During the fight with the carbonite war driod, I gripped the carbonite grenade and attempted to throw it at a stormtrooper near the war machine. After 10 attempts I finally gave up, everytime the grenade was redirected back at the Driod and not to the trooper where I had aimed. On the bright side, when you upgrade grip you no longer have to hold down both triggers to lift up three enemies into the air.

The Ugly

There was no any major issues in the demo. A couple of glitches here and there, and a bug might have a dead trooper stand up after he dies before dissappearing. But that can be expected in any game. One thing that wasn't too pretty was Vaders cape. After being shocked by Starkiller, the cape unrealisticly stuck and shifted above Darth Vader shoulders. However, this was the in-game cutscene, whereas the cinematic scene with Vader looked just like the movies.

The Verdict

The Force Unleashed 2 Demo recieves a solid 9.3/10 or A-

If you dont press anything at the Start Menu a brief glimps of the full product is shown. If the rest of the game is anywhere near as good as the demo, than Lucas Arts may have a Game of The Year contender in their hands.

Thats right folks. The TFU II Blog got an exclusive questionare with Brett Rector. Although he was unable to answer the majority of questions, for various reasons, he was able to give us a few interesting bits of information.

When is the Demo Coming?

· October 12

How many more moves have been added to the game? So far it looks like the first game with an additional lightsaber and a ton of great looking visual, but the same combat moves. How different will the combat be, for instance, there is a basic button mash combo, just press attack over and over, How has this changed? Is there any alternate attacks or is it just the same deal repackaged and looking 10 times better?

· We added new attacks and combos to work with the dual sabers, which includes new animations. The combos are activated the same way that they were in TFU, which is to say by timed, calculated button presses. And like TFU, there will be lightsaber / Force power combos. There are certainly varied attacks this time around due to the dual lightsaber fighting style we’ve instituted. We’ve also incorporated new grapple moves, which will allow the player to perform additional combo moves

What are some of the bosses we will face? Besides the "Gorog", potentially Boba and Vader?

· You’ll have to wait and see!

What is the name of the Giant Spider Droid that was in the E3 trailer and how many of those will we face?

· The name of that enemy is the Titan Walker.

Morlinch? Orloc? Gorog? Some of the fans have noticed that different people have used different names for the creature Starkiller faces on Cato. Isthere more than one creature, were those simply different names for the "Gorog" or simply trashed concept ideals?

· We did, in fact, wrestle with a few names. Gorog is the name we came up with for the creature on Cato. I’ve actually never heard of the other two names.

Can you bisect enemies, or is the decapitation and chopping off arms all that we will see?

· There is decap and de-limbing.

What is your favorite part of the game so far?

· I like that we got de-limbing / decap into the game. The lightsaber is finally a lightsaber!

What is your favorite Challange Map?

· I really like our Combo Challenge because you learn how to use all of our combos. They’re awesome!

Which of you guys is the best at the Wii Multyplayer?

· It’s a toss-up between Ian Pang (one of our producers) and Chris Cook.

Though you may have to wait until the end of the month to get your hands on a copy of the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II game, those eager to continue the story of Starkiller can get a head's start at the bookstore. The Force Unleashed II story has been adapted into fiction as a novel, audio book and graphic novel, and all three are available this week.

The novelization arrives on October 5th as a hardcover release by Del Rey Books. Written by Sean Williams -- the New York Times bestselling author of the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed -- from a story by Haden Blackman, this book tells the single "historical" version of the game's story. Random House Audio also releases Sean Williams' The Force Unleashed II novel on October 5th, as an unabridged audio book on CD. Actor Jonathan Davis reads the story, which features Star Wars music and sound effects.

For the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II graphic novel, Dark Horse Comics is telling an original story set during the events of game. While it does not re-tell the story of the game, it does build upon it, with an angle that focuses on Boba Fett.

The Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II graphic novel is an 88-pages trade paperback written by Haden Blackman with art by Omar Francia.

Vince Kudirka: The story for The Force Unleashed II does indeed pick up after the ending of The Force Unleashed. [SPOILERS INCOMING!] In the canon light-side ending of the previous game, after fighting and defeating both Vader and the Emperor, Starkiller must sacrifice himself to save his friends, and therefore the fledgling Rebel Alliance. At the start of The Force Unleashed II, presumably a clone of the deceased Starkiller is being held by Vader. "New Star Wars Multiplayer Might Remind You Of Super Smash Bros.

It turns out that creative lead James Clarendon at Red Fly Studio is a fan of many fighting games and drew from inspirations as diverse as SNK vs. Capcom and... The Outfoxies? Clarendon told me that that game is an antecedent of Smash Bros. What he liked about that one is its use of transforming levels.

But if you don't know Outfoxies any better than I do, I think you can think of this as Super Star Wars Smash. Up to four players can choose from eight characters and play them in fixed-screen arena levels. You control combat with Wii Remote and Nunchuk, hammering buttons for attacks, using a dash move for quick escapes and collecting items to charge super attacks.

You can choose from characters unlocked while playing the single-player campaign. The roster includes Darth Vader and Boba Fett as well as characters from Clone Wars, Force Unleashed and other corners of Star Wars fiction. The levels include the Death Star laser tunnel, Jabba the Hutt's sail barge and a big arena that includes a monster than can beat up Rancors.

Last player standing wins.

I played it and enjoyed it. But I did struggle as Boba Fett. His offense is a little weak. He can fire rockets but by default shoots a laster pistol. He can jump and use his jetpack to fly, which makes him tough to catch, but the fact is, he does not wield a lightsaber and he can't force choke."

"The sequel stars the clone of Starkiller. Vader's looking to improve on what he sees were the faults of the first Starkiller: his emotions. So within this framework, we were thrust into a tutorial level where we had to hack down robots posing as Rebels and Starkiller's love interest from the first game, Juno Eclipse. This was the vehicle for reclaiming the memories of his predecessor and, more importantly, the Force powers of Starkiller The First.
But once Starkiller 2 refuses to kill what he suspects is the real Juno (it was another bot!), he sees the future: Vader will kill him, just as he has killed the clones who came before him and failed Vader's test. In a panic, he hits Vader with some Force Lightning and dives out of a window in the hopes of escaping his own doom"

Lucas Arts Studio Update

LucasArts has confirmed to IGN the company issued layoff notices today.

A spokesperson would not comment on the number of employees let go, but an unconfirmed report from Kotaku suggests over 30% of the studio was shown the door.

"LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing," a company representative said.

"LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio – and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners – in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans."

The company has been the center of attention the past few months. Paul Meegan replaced Darrell Rodriguez as president of the company in June, and Force Unleashed II producer Haden Blackman resigned in late July.

In August, former Ubisoft Montreal creative director Clint Hocking joined LucasArts to develop an unannounced project.

The Force Unleashed II's Wii Version Adds More Jedi Powers

As with the original, the sequel to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be getting different versions of the game for the DS and Wii.

When the original game came out I was deeply disappointed in how those DS and Wii versions played. This time around it sounds like the Wii version, by developers Red Fly, is getting a significant overhaul.

I didn't have a chance to play the Wii version of the game, but in theory the changes sound like they should be moving the game in the right direction.

"The [creators of] Wii version took the same story and design philosophy, but built their own game," said LucasArts assistant producer Cameron Suey. "There is unique content throughout the levels.

"It is more of a companion game."

The Wii version will have its own story and even some unique Force Powers, like Force Sight which will allow you to see invisible enemies and enemies through walls.

The multiplayer aspect of the game also sounds like it is getting a significant overhaul. Multiplayer in the Wii version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has you fighting a single opponent in a 3D fighter.

This time around multiplayer will support up to four players on a single screen and the game will play like a 2D brawler, Suey said.

Here's hoping that the game lives up the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of the title.

This doesn't seem to be unfair to xbox360/ps3 owners, but still...why no multiplayer? You can have a solid singleplayer experience and have decent muliplayer at the same time. To bad that isnt happening.

Rumor: Lucasarts Cancels Force Unleashed 3

"New Lucasarts president Paul Meegan certainly isn't wasting any time. Barely two months into the job and we hear he's already swinging the axe and cancelling high profile sequels.

If you were wondering why it was strange that Force Unleashed II creative director Haden Blackman would leave mid-project, this may explain things: according to sources at Lucasarts, Meegan has cancelled a third Force Unleashed game that was already in development, and members of Force Unleashed II's team (though we're not sure exactly how many) will be shown the door once that game ships.

Another unnamed project, due to ship next year, has avoided the axe, but has been "put on hold" while developers have been told to "expect management and reporting changes". Those changes are down to the departure of Blackman, who as work was winding down on Force Unleashed II had been leading development on this secret project.

These sources say "morale and productivity are at all-time lows" since Meegan took over, with most Lucasarts developers only finding out about Force Unleashed II's cancellation on the PSP by reading it on gaming news sites.

We've also been told that another sweeping change made by Meegan is that the majority of "external" development of Lucasarts properties is coming to an end, with BioWare's Old Republic MMO to be the last game not developed internally at Lucasarts. That would presumably mean, for example, no more LEGO Star Wars or LEGO Indiana Jones titles after the upcoming LEGO: Clone Wars, as those have all been handled by Traveller's Tales.

So, yes, if this is all indeed correct, big changes are afoot at the house that Star Wars built. Lots of them bad news for the developers currently there, but looking at the big picture, the silver lining could be that such drastic shake-ups could be exactly what's needed at a publisher and developer that, courtesy of its licenses and history, should be doing a lot better both commercially and critically than it currently is.

We've contacted Lucasarts for comment, and will update if we hear back."

The executive producer and writer of the Force Unleashed videogame series, Haden Blackman, has resigned from LucasArts today after spending 13 years with the studio, the company confirmed to IGN.

Blackman has been credited with working on several titles over the years, including the Force Unleashed I and II, Star Wars: Galaxies, and Star Wars: Force Commander. He also helped write and produce a number of Star Wars books and comics.

"I've had a fantastic time working with the team at Lucasfilm and am really grateful for their ongoing support," Blackman said in a statement.

"While the decision to leave LucasArts did not happen overnight or come easily, I really feel that now is the best time for me to move on and explore new creative challenges and I look forward to the next phase of my career."

The Force Unleashed II is currently set for release this October. A LucasArts representative said Blackman's departure will not affect the game's development.

This makes no sense, to resign just when your pride and joy is about to be unleashed. This is the second time this year someone resigned from Lucas Arts. Whats going on?

Here is the new info that was released at the live demo at Comic-Con:

1. You can customize your appearance. (This most likely means his costume, like the first game.)

2. Boba Fett has a small but pivotal role in the game. Vader hiring him to retrieve Juno drives the second half of the plot.

3. Their interested in Kinect and Move but cannot say anything more about it.

4. Lightsabers are color customizable. But unlike the first game you can choose the different colors for each saber (Purple rain anyone?)

5. Customization consists of lightsaber colors and force power tweaking.

6. Starkiller travels to Dagobah and has a 'fateful encounter'. (In response to the question whether we'll see Yoda.)

7. At least one Jedi survivor will appear in the game. (Lucasarts wont say the name.(It's most likely Yoda.))

8. There will always be open questions, but Starkiller will go on a satisfying journey. (In response to the question whether this is the last game in the series or if this game will tie into a third.)

9. When you fight the Gorog, you end up doing a free fall and cut a hole into the Gorog to kill it.

Just before LucasArts' Haden Blackman made the trek to Comic-Con in San Diego he took time to talk to Game Hunters about the announcement planned there for Thursday: Star Wars fan favorite Boba Fett will appear in The Force Unleashed II and be an impediment to main character Starkiller.

Coming Oct. 26 for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows PCs, The Force Unleashed II continues the story of Starkiller, Darth Vader's secret apprentice, with events that take place between the films Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.

At the beginning of the game Starkiller escapes Vader (more on The Force Unleashed II story line). "Darth Vader is hiring Boba Fett for this top-secret misson. Boba Fett realized that Starkiller has quite a head start on him having escaped from (cloning plant planet) Kamino so he goes after what Starkiller is probably after which is (love interest) Juno (Eclipse)," Blackman says. "It's easier for him to track down Juno than it is to track down Starkiller and use that to lure Starkiller back into Vader's clutches."

Blackman says LucasArts purposefully saved the Boba Fett news for Comic-Con (that includes the short cinematic clip from the game, above; plus check our print edition for an exclusive image). "Boba Fett is one of those characters that really resonates with fans," he says. "There is obviously a lot of fan favorites and it's a really, really rich universe with tons and tons of characters but Boba Fett is one of those characters that fans just keep asking for more of."

At the convention, Blackman will be demonstrating the game Thursday and signing autographs. Blackman served as project leader on The Force Unleashed and is franchise director on the sequel. "There is a project leader that is running the day-to-day operations on the game who reports to me," he says. "Then I oversee the franchise as a whole (and) overseeing multiple Star Wars projects."

A frequent writer of comics and graphic novels, Blackman wrote the story for both Force Unleashed games and is also writing a graphic novel for the new game. "There was a graphic novel for The Force Unleashed and it was very successful for Dark Horse (Comics) so they are doing another one for (the sequel)."

The Force Unleashed, he says, is considered "a new Star Wars franchise under the umbrella of the greater (intellectual property). When we did (the original), we wanted to treat it very much like a film release and get all the major licensing partners you would see with any major film. So we had a novel. We had a comic book adaptation and we had other toys as well and we are doing a lot of the same things with The Force Unleashed II. There will be a novelization (written by Sean Williams, who wrote the first one) that goes into more detail about what Juno and General Kota are going through during this time period."

For game developers, Comic-Con has a different vibe than the Electronic Entertainment Expo, he says. "What is really exciting about Comic-Con is it is a chance to interact with fans and consumers and show them the game for the first time. E3 is mostly press and retail, which is great to get the message out about what a game like The Force Unleashed is. At Comic-Con. we really have an opportunity to interact with fans and find out what they liked about the first game, get them excited about the sequel and get their thoughts on Star Wars in general."

But Blackman plans some time for himself. "I'm a huge comic book geek, in general, so I have been an attendee for 15 years now. So for me to get a chance to see other creators that I admire and see what other comic book companies and game developers are doing is really exciting, too."

NO MULTIPLAYER FOR XBOX 360 & PS3

In a recent interview, on gamespot, with one of the game developers for TFU II, Troy Simms, it was confirmed that the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of The Force Unleashed 2 will NOT have any form of multiplayer. While they manage to put dismemberment into the game and fix the most of the glitches, Lucas Arts fail to satisfy the fans who have screamed for multiplayer on a higher platform since day one. Maybe they will get it right next time in TFU III?

Entry 77. An evacuation order has been given to all nonessential personnel in response the return of subject 1138. We are so close to success... I will do what is necessary to make 1157 fully accept the imprint.

Entry 78. By Lord Vader's orders, we are abandoning all non-viable subjects. We will have to release 1157 into the training facility to see if the imprint finally holds.......I can only hope that in these final minutes, my life's work is not in vain.

The Star Wars universe now has so many different threads, canons and splits, is there ever any talk within Lucas Arts of pressing the reset switch like they're doing with the Spider-Man movies?

Not really, we don't necessarily perceive it in the same way of there being all these divergent threads.

When I started at the company 13 years ago I worked on this reference project that was an encyclopaedia, and I was warned when I first took the job that I was going to have difficulty dealing with continuity conflicts and there weren't that many - there were a handful.

LucasArts licensing does a really great job of keeping everything consistent and having it make sense. If there is ever a conflict they find really creative ways to explain away that conflict, so I don't feel like its like a lot of comic book companies where they have so many timelines in so many different worlds that they need to collapse them all.

We don't have that same problem, what we do have a strong desire to do is to re-imagine Star Wars, based on the medium and that's what we did with Force Unleashed 1.

That's where the idea for the over the top force powers came from, but from a story standpoint we never use the story to explain why the powers were all over the top, that's the way the force is portrayed in our particular medium and fans love that.

Dismemberment Confirmed for TFU II

In a recent E3 Preview on IGN.com confirmed dismemberment in The Force Unleashed II. Anthony Gallegos, the one who wrote the article, was shown basically the same demo that was shown a few months ago. However, he did "notice one major change: limbs were flying."
He doesn't give much more details about the dismemberment except that "LucasArts knows t that they have to step it up this time around, making the player feel even more empowered than ever." In the rest if the article we read how LucasArts has empowered the player in combat.

#1 Observation log: Subject 1157: Phase 13b: Entry 27

The process is underway, subject presents sporadic signs of consciousness often followed by acute paroxysmal attacks caused by a sudden and short lived demyelination of nerves located in the cerebro-cerebellum. These episodes are observed externally as course trembling around the body, the source reason for these episodes is unclear. All skeletal and muscular structures are intact, no sign of allergic reaction and the nutrient supply is being effectively absorbed. We have begun mind scans to record the subject’s conscious experiences as a way ascertaining the cause of the disturbances. In the mean time until a satisfactory course of treatment can be readily decided, sedative techniques and counter memory insertion measures are being taken at any sign of ataxia here ensuring the subject doesn’t cause himself harm.

#2 Entry 32: The subject is experiencing a sympathetic echo effect as a result of memory-based non-psychotic hallucinations. These hallucinations are inducing psycho-physical reactions beyond the capacity of his current state. In other words, 1157 is experiencing memories as if he were physically present and had his full faculties and talents. The resulting trauma is inducing shock, and causing convulsions. the subject's midi-chlorian levels remain reasonably high; he can endure extreme disturbance without skeletal harm or muscular atrophy. Though he does not have control over midi-chlorian organization, restraint programming, trigger-based sedation techniques and continuing counter-insertion methods seem a necessary precaution.

#3 (Entry 42: The unceasing storms have affected the power grid, creating an unsatisfactory level of sustainability for the equipment we've been using. Some process details have been lost. The droids must complete many tests manually. This is resulting in a level of inconsistency in treatment. It is unclear how this has affected the subject. Electrostatic resistant equipment has been ordered.

#4 Observation log: Subject 1157: Phase 16d: Entry 4

Unlike previous subjects 1157:s capacity is not impaired to the state of the process. He has virtually ceased experiencing any physical side-effects. This is a new and exciting development. Vital signs point to complete motor functions, including high oxygen saturation. He is now able to counter any internal stress source from either genetic impulses or imprints, and we will begin the next phase of rapid acceleration.

#5 Entry 12:
As his capacity increases and the process continues, 1157:s hallucinations have become more focused and calm. In fact there are points of consciousness where the hallucination cease entirely, and he is aware of his presence in the tank. While there has been no need for concern we continue mild restraint and sedation procedures as a precautionary tactic.

#6 Entry 21:
In reaction to 1157's increased capacity, the adjoining training facility has been updated to accommodate him once he has fully accepted his imprint. This includes an isolation chamber and several more PROXY droids. The facility itself has also been reinforced, as to render it impenetrable in case of possible flight reaction.

#7 Entry 25:
With recent developments in 1157's stability, I have received word that Lord Vader will be inspecting the facility tomorrow. I am honored to offer this scientific success to the cause. I foresee our learning from this subject translating into an era of refinement and advancement for the process.

#8 Entry 33:
When not sedated, 1157's capacity has reached beyond the tank, allowing him to manipulate and attack the droids. due to restraint procedures, 1157 cannot breach the integrity of the tank, nor can he hurt himself.

#9 Observation log: subject 1157, phase 22-A, entry 29:
Observation of recent hallucinations reveals unacceptable anxiety levels brought on by genetic memories of a particular...woman. No amount of imprinting can change his behavior. If this imprint axis fails, a revised external desensitization training
will need to be enacted.
